Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond received the 2013 VHHA Community Benefit Award for its provision of lab services to local free clinics. Since 2004, Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital has provided lab services to eight Richmond-area free clinics as well as to uninsured patients served by the Bon Secours Care-A-Van and the Bon Secours Saint Joseph’s Outreach Clinic. Bon Secours’ provision of lab services allows medical personnel to monitor patients, which is critical in assessing risk and measuring whether a patient is making progress, especially in managing chronic conditions. In 2012, the total value of the service provided by Bon Secours St. Mary’s was over $553,000.

Carilion Clinic in Roanoke received the 2012 VHHA Community Benefit Award for the Adolescent and Student Health Services Program of the Carilion Children's Hospital. The program was established in 1992 by Carilion Clinic and its community partners to improve access to health care for children aged 10-19, provide pregnancy prevention education and confidential services for teens and reduce the rate of teen pregnancy in Roanoke through community-based and school-based health care services.
Wellmont Health System was recognized as a 2012 finalist for its Wellmont Osteopathic Family Medicine Residency Program at Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap.
2011
Mary Washington Healthcare in Fredericksburg received the 2011 VHHA Community Benefit Award for the Virginia Heart & Vascular Institute Heart Failure Clinic. The program assists heart failure patients with early follow-up care following hospitalization, in-depth education, optimization of medications and close monitoring of the patient's weight. The Clinic has a readmission rate of 1-2 percent, well below the national average of 25 percent. Additionally, the Clinic's success has reduced Mary Washington Hospital's readmission rates from 32 percent to under 25 percent.
Inova Health System was recognized as a 2011 finalist for its InovaCares Clinic for Women and Children.
Riverside Health System in Newport News received the 2010 VHHA Community Benefit Award for Project CARE of the Greater Virginia Peninsula. The program addresses the need for a regional system of care for uninsured patients utilizing the emergency department as their medical home, and pools specialty providers to provide care to these uninsured to reduce problems associated with chronic disease.
Mountain States Health Alliance, Norton Community Hospital and UVA Medical Center were the first recipients of the VHHA Community Benefit Award in 2009. They are recognized for their participation in and support of the annual Remote Area Medical Clinic in Wise, Virginia.
Bon Secours Richmond Health System was recognized as a 2009 finalist for its Care-A-Van program.
Riverside Health System received the 2013 Health and Wellbeing Award for its CareAdvantage PPO, which offers platinum-level health and wellness benefits and physician partnership to team members who use Riverside providers and facilities. This platform provides a patient-centered medical home relationship for team members and spouses, who work directly with their primary care physicians to receive critical screening tests, and ultimately, to develop a personal wellness plan.

Bon Secours Richmond Health System received the inaugural VHHA Health and Wellbeing Award for its Good Life Wellness Program. The Good Life Wellness Program’s mission is to restore, improve, protect and maintain the health and wellbeing of its employees by promoting workplace wellness. Its goals are to assess employee health risks, reduce identified risks through wellness programs and services, promote cost savings and improve productivity.
Valley Health was recognized as a 2012 finalist for its Healthy U Employee Wellness Program.
