May 2011 Review – Quality Imperative – Elevating Quality and Patient Safety Statewide

May 1, 2011

Achieving reliability in health care is complex. Nevertheless, VHHA is committed to making quality and patient safety a priority for Virginia’s hospitals and health systems. Leadership, persistence and creativity are key components for creating effective and efficient health care organizations in the Commonwealth. The VHHA Board of Directors has approved an action plan that focuses on improving quality and patient safety. More specifically, the Board supported the strategic direction for hospitals and health systems in the Commonwealth to demonstrate national top-tier performance in key indicators for quality and safety outcomes.

Health care organizations are focused on sharing knowledge and information that will move all providers along the journey together. This effort is one of partnership and sharing rather than competitive differentiation. Outcome improvement will be accelerated through structured learning opportunities with all health care providers.
