The Virginia Hospital Research & Education Foundation invites you to join us for a lecture and panel discussion on how the opioid crisis came to be, and how a collective approach to stamping out addiction is the best way forward.

Sam Quinones, nationally renowned author of the award-winning book, “Dream Land: The True Tale of America’s Opiate Epidemic”, will offer a keynote lecture on his research into the catalyst of the current state of illicit opioid use and abuse, in which he will provide insight on how the “unintentional collision” of health care and capitalism have created a perfect storm that has ravished all parts of the country.

Following the lecture, a multidisciplinary panel will provide a locally focused response, including work being done to combat the crisis from the medical, law enforcement, legislative, and community health perspectives.

This program is funded in part with support from the Virginia Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment grant from SAMHSA, which provides training and integration support to healthcare professionals and organizations to manage those at risk for substance abuse disorders.

Sponsors for this event include: Cordant Solutions, Inova Health SystemKaleoMcShin FoundationValley HealthVCU Health, and VHHA Shared Services.
