The Link Between Effective Communication and Pain Management

Good communication between the patient and hospital staff is one of the many factors in patient safety, providing quality care, and increasing overall hospital performace. Caregivers have opportunities to improve on effective communication strategies with patients, physicians, and hospital staff. Figure 1 below shows there is a direct relationship between how patients score their communication about medication and their pain management (p < .0001). This suggests that as patients experience better communication with caregivers, they are better able to manage their pain. (10/30/2015)
