Virginia Hospital Center
Arlington, Va.

For more than 70 years, Virginia Hospital Center (VHC) has dedicated itself to improving the health of our community, always seeking new ways to enhance our clinical services and bring additional value to the patient population that we serve. Our commitment to quality care, patient satisfaction and physician collaboration led to our membership of Mayo Clinic Care Network in 2015.

This clinical collaboration has many benefits. VHC physicians can complement their expert patient treatment by using Mayo Clinic’s point-of-care best practices on disease management, care guidelines and treatment recommendations. In addition to receiving Mayo Clinic’s clinical knowledge and expertise, VHC physicians can view Mayo Clinic’s Grand Round medical lectures, participate in complex cancer care case discussions and receive direct consultation on patient diagnosis and treatment plans from Mayo Clinic specialists.

In 2015, VHC physicians requested 130 eConsults on behalf of patients in need of complex medical care. These expert second opinions included 24 different medical specialties, ranging from Hematology to Neurology, Infectious Diseases and Pulmonary Medicine. While the specifics of each case varied, what each eConsult had in common was that it enabled every one of the 130 VHC patients involved to benefit from Mayo Clicic’s world-renowned expertise without having to leave home, and at no additional cost. Our collaboration also allows patients to get diagnosis and treatment options quickly. Typical turnaround time is within three business days.

Virginia Hospital Center looks forward to the contribution of our Mayo Clinic collaboration and to providing additional medical expertise and high-value-care to our patients in 2016 and beyond.
