REVIEW Magazine: Virginia Responds to Human Trafficking

September 3, 2019

The Fall 2019 edition of VHHA’s REVIEW Magazine focuses on the serious public health challenge of human trafficking, which involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to exploit a person into labor or commercial sex activities against their will. It is estimated that more than 40 million people across the globe are exploited in human trafficking, which is a $150 billion global criminal enterprise. This issue features real stories of hospital patients who have been exploited (de-identified to protect patient confidentiality and privacy). These stories are graphic in nature so reader discretion is advised.

The magazine also features an overview of law changes enacted by the Virginia General Assembly to combat human trafficking in the Commonwealth; guest columns from Senator Siobhan Dunnavant, Delegate Tim Hugo, and Delegate Karrie Delaney; a link to the latest episode of the VHHA Patients Come First podcast featuring Senator Jennifer McClellan; a guest column from the American Hospital Association; and much more.

This issue of VHHA’s REVIEW Magazine is supported by the Virginia Department of Health’s Project ECHO; and VHHA Foundation corporate partners Alteon Health, Lumeris, US Acute Care Solutions, and VHHA Shared Services.
