Celebrating VHHA’s 100 years
This year, the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association is celebrating its centennial anniversary (1926-2026). The legacy of VHHA includes 100 years of supporting the important work of hospital and health systems across the Commonwealth to protect health, enhance access to care, and strengthen our economy. VHHA represents 26 health systems with 117 acute care, children’s, psychiatric, long-term care, rehabilitation, and specialty hospitals across Virginia. The latest data shows that on an annual basis Virginia hospitals contribute $4.5 billion in community support, generate $68.8 billion in positive economic activity, directly provide more than 138,000 jobs with more than $13 billion in payroll, accommodate more than 4.45 million patient days, handle 92 percent of all voluntary and involuntary behavioral health inpatient admissions, and deliver more than 86,000 babies.

Each year, VHHA is active at the Virginia General Assembly, advocating on behalf of hospitals, healthcare, patients, and public health to support a healthier, stronger Virginia. The annual Virginia Hospital Lobby Day at the Capitol is one example of that work in action.
In April, VHHA elected new officers to its Board of Directors and held a member appreciation event with a special appearance by Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger. View a photo gallery from that event here.
In May, Virginia was again ranked one of the top states in the nation for patient safety based on strong performance by VHHA member hospitals.
During the celebration of National Nurses Week and National Hospital Week, VHHA hosted a series of statewide healthcare appreciation events to premiere a new short film – Healing and Hope: Hospitals’ Legacy of Service in Virginia. Filmed on location around Virginia, the documentary profiles powerful patient and provider stories and chronicles the history of healthcare in Virginia across the centuries. Free premiere screening events were held in communities across the Commonwealth: Wytheville, Glen Alen, Woodbridge, Woodstock, Hampton, and Roanoke.

Governor Proclamation
Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger issued a formal proclamation honoring Hospital Week and acknowledging the VHHA centennial anniversary.
Congressional Record
Virginia Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan also submitted a congressional record recognizing the VHHA 100th anniversary.
General Assembly Resolution
Virginia General Assembly adopted a resolution commending VHHA on its 100 years of service.
